 What's New for the 2018 Ford F-150?

Ford's incredibly popular F-150 series of trucks is getting a bit of a makeover for the 2018 model year. New engine technology is the biggest news. Six models offer a wide range of standard and available features to suit a range of truck buyers, The new King Ranch and Platinum models should appeal to luxury-minded buyers, while the XL and XLT are somewhat more utilitarian. All models boast a number of comfort, safety, and convenience features that were optional or just not available before.

The F-150 series boasts a number of exterior and mechanical upgrades from previous models.Four exterior appearance packages are available, depending on the model. A new horizontal applique on the tailgate is available, where a new stamped logo is standard on some models. All of the available six wheel designs are new for 2018. The LED taillights are similar, but with each of the pair outlined individually by LED lights. The design of the standard 'F-150' logo on the back is also new for 2018. The most substantial mechanical change has to be the new line-up of engines. A diesel V6 joins the four new gasoline engines in the Spring of 2018. the new standard engine is 3.3-liter V6 producing 290 horsepower and 265 lb.-ft of torque. As with previous F-150s, the engine features an automatic stop-start feature that helps save gas. All truck models come with a new 10-speed automatic transmission.

The interior is new in some ways, but the most visible upgrade may well be the new Bang and Olafsson sound system. The B & O Play system boasts AM/FM stereo, CD/MP3 capability, and 10 speakers. Adaptive cruise control that automatically stops the truck is available, as is pedestrian sensing. The other big, not-so-visible, change inside is the availability of FordPass as part of SYNC Connect. FordPass allows the owner to remotely lock and unlock the vehicle, start the engine remotely, and access a mobile wi-fi hotpspot. Owners are likely to notice a smooth ride, thanks to the new adaptive suspension. No longer does the ride have to be smooth with the truck bed load, and rough like an ox-cart when the truck is empty.
